SOS FOR ROM OF KOSOVO!-Common announcement from Ecologists and ROM, from Greece and Serbia-Montenegro
SOS FOR ROM OF KOSOVO!
In north Kosovo are threatened seriously communities of ROM, which have been moved recently, in abandoned industrial region that has been polluted with lead. Bigger danger is for the children of ROM (and the pregnant women), and already the doctors have warned that their blood presents increased concentration of toxic metal, and they are in danger from sickness and serious consequences in health.
Communities of ROM had been displaced because the war in Yugoslavia in provisional bivouacs near the industrial area of northern department of Kosobska Mitrobitsa, where it is abandoned mines, the accumulated waste of them, created enormous environmental problem.
The ecologists and ROM, from Greece and Serbia-Montenegro, call for support the ROM of Kosovo, and want the mobilisation of public opinion. The ROM of Kosovo are victims of marginalisation as minority, victims of war and bombardments of Yugoslavia, but also victims from the consequences of irresponsible industrial development that do not respect health and environment.
Let’s mobilised immediately against the centralized and energy-consume model which causes inequalities, wars, autarchism, and destruction of health and environment. For an other model of development where main element will be viability, rights of minorities, multiculturalism, peace, decentralisation, the aid of small-familial business, the protection of health-environment.
Let’s realise that all the citizens of Balkans we have common problems, and that the environmental destruction and the irresponsible development threaten all of us, and more the minority and poor.
